Writing

In the continuing theme of craptasticness that is this week, I just found out my book's been canceled. I'm going back to bed until Monday.

Everything Else

See above.

I'm feeling: numbCrap

Well, as I said to Ari, it wasn't a complete surprise. There've been several books that were announced, showed up on Amazon, then mysteriously disappeared -- it doesn't take a genius to figure out some books are getting axed and that yours may be the next on the chopping block (well, not YOURS, of course, but you know what I mean).

I'm very sorry, Marcy. That blows.

And now you have some idea of what I was complaining about yesterday in my own journal. :-(

If you want someone in a similar boat to vent to, or just to talk about what's going on, my e-mail is ari AT mouseferatu DOT com.

Yeah, I kinda figured that when I read your entry, so I can't say I was completely surprised to see a message from my editor on the answering machine this morning.

Are you going to GenCon? We can have a canceled book party there. We'll be in good company.

Yep, I'll be there, though I'll admit I'm finding myself somewhat less thrilled about the whole scene right now...

I repeat the WTF comment.

That wine is sounding better and better, Deb.

As stated above ... WTF?

That. Sucks.

So very, very sorry to hear that, Marcy.

Yeah, me too. Ah, well, gives me time to work on my own stuff now, I guess.

Son of a gun. That blows. I'm so sorry to hear it.

Thanks. It does, indeed, blow, and not in a good way.

WTF? - seconded

I think they found out I'm a McCain supporter. ;P

Dear God! A specfic writer who's NOT a Democrat? That's unpossible!

I know -- I'm a minority unto myself. Heh.

Echoing the various WTFs. We're here for you, Marcy, publicly or privately, if you need to talk and/or vent.

Thanks, Jaleigh. And happy belated anniversary! :)

You can bet I'm echoing the above WTF sentiments! Is WotC screwing the pooch or what? Next thing you know, they're gonna dissolve the entire Eberron game line. I swear, there are some amazing morons at work in some places. If you need to chat or anything, you know several places to find me...I will always be there for you!

Joe

I can't speak to what's going on at WotC, just that my own book has been canceled, for reasons that have nothing to do with me or my writing.

Still sucks, though.

I guess I'll add another WTF to the list.

This might not be any real consolation, but I think good things come in bunches, too. It's something to hope for, anyway.

Thank you for that. Let us hope that the arrival of good things begins posthaste!

Um, what? Is the book line doing poorly or something?

I'm sorry, but that blows. I know you put a lot of work getting the proposal approved and who know how much you've already written.

Go write in your own world, Marce. Join us..... Well, not me since my world isn't published, but join the revenue-earning writers who write in their own worlds. :)

See my response to Joe, above.

Yeah, it sucks, but what are you gonna do? It's one of the risks of working in this business, whether you're writing tie-in or creator-owned stuff.

Well... bloody hell!

That is just... craptastic in a whole 'nudder universe.

I am really sorry to hear that Marcy. I obviously don't know any of the details, but strictly from a readers view, that sucks. Hopefully there are brighter paths ahead for you.

Thanks, Andy.

For the record, this doesn't mean I'll never write another book for WotC. Just not THIS one.

Marcy, I am so sorry to hear this. I know how hard you've been working on the novel and I just can't believe this. You know when the whole Dragons of the Hourglass Mage issue came up, WOTC made a statement about being unhappy when thei business partners don't live up to their end of things and now they are not living up to their end. Are they going to give you back the time you spent on the novel? The time away from other projects and the extra time you could have spent with family?

Legacy of Wolves was awesome and I was really looking forward to your next book so I am very disappointed. But even more than that, I am angry that they would do this to you and the other writers (it seems like they have been axing alot of books lately in the Dragonlance line, the discoveries line, and now your book).

I have always been supportive of WOTC, but it is getting really hard with all that is going on.

Thanks, DR.

For the record, I don't hold any ill will towards WotC. They're certainly well within their rights, and canceled books happen with every publisher, for a variety of reasons. It's one of the risks of working in this business.

I'll still buy their books, and will still write for them, given the opportunity.

Well I don't have any ill will toward them either and am sorry if I sounded that way. I will certainly still buy Eberron and other novels.

I am just thinking there have been a lot of cancelations lately. I don't know the reasons, but Matt Forbeck (whose novel has also been cancelled) had this to say "Management at Wizards apparently wants to do something different with the book department, although I’m not privy to what it is." So I was wondering why they didn't just publish the novels underway, before making the change.

But then again perhaps I am just disappointed since I was really looking forward to these novels.

Oh, that wasn't directed at you specifically, no worries.

And I share your disappointment, trust me. Just trying hard not to be bitter about the whole thing.

Marcy, yeah, this is pretty crappy for you, Jeff, and everyone else involved. Very sorry to hear it. But at least you've gotten to tone those creative muscles further through the exercise, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next, as well as hopefully meeting you at Gen Con.

Thanks, Ken.

Not sure what I'll be doing next. I just got roped into being my church's 4th grade catechism teacher, so I guess my creative energies will be going into that for awhile.

Well I am jumping in the WFT line. I am so sorry to hear this. I cut my Eberron teeth on "Legacy of Wolves" (oh, I just kill myself sometimes....) and was anxiously hoping to read more of your work.

Here's to your future endeavors {raises a glass} and again sorry that it happened.

Thank you. I'm glad you liked LoW, and I'm sure you'll read more from at some point. It just won't be this particular book.

Just joining in the chorus. I'm sorry, Marce.

Thanks, Grimmy. Onward and upward, I guess.

lame

All this and I can't wear my plaid Vans to GenCon?
(Won't be going this year, for the first time in 4 years, what a drag! Who's going to take my seat and drink my ale at the Ram?)
Truly disappointed to hear about this development.

Re: lame

I'm sorry you can't make it this year. I'll miss your shoes! ;)

WTF's all around I guess. Very sorry to hear that Marcy.

Thanks, James. Lots of people getting this particular phone call this week, it seems.

That sucks. Sorry to hear it.
